ISS appointed as representatives for Kammrath and Weiss

K and W stages pic Manchester, July 2007: The ISS Group has been appointed distributors for Kammrath & Weiss’ range of specialty micro and nano-scale testing devices.

Testing on the nano scale becomes more challenging each day as components and structures get smaller with the advance of technology. With over thirty years experience, Kammrath & Weiss deliver a variety of off-the-shelf and customised solutions.

In the materials sciences, there are devices for use inside an SEM for the measurement of mechanical and physical properties under ambient and cryo conditions. Stages can be designed for most commercial systems providing the added dimension to materials characterization.

An example of this is the micro tensile module shown here. This is an example of a sub-stage ("module") for an SEM specimen stage and will also work with a light microscope. It is suitable for mechanical load experiments such as static or oscillating tensile tests. Designed to handle extremely small samples, a piezo-controlled gripper mechanism is combined with a crosstable mechanics of the highest displacement resolution coupled with a load gauge with sub-µN precision.

To illustrate the breadth of the K&W product range, there is a unit designed specifically for the IC industry for the measurement of electrical properties. Up to six probes may be placed with the highest positioning accuracy (to 10nm) directly onto an integrated circuit. These systems are commonly situated within a commercial FIB system such as would be found in leading industrial manufacturers and academic research laboratories in the world of semiconductors.
